Nintendo’s first smartphone app is out this week

It sounds like it could be pretty addictive.

Work commutes will never be the same again.

Nintendo is launching its very first smartphone app – Miitomo – for iOS and Android this week.

The first of (hopefully) many shiny new Nintendo games and apps for your phone, Miitomo works a bit like Tamagotchi – having you look after a virtual Mii avatar as it asks you questions and makes friends with other users.

Gamers will even be able to scan their faces to create characters and sync Miitomo with their Facebook or Twitter accounts to create a virtual playground.

To play Miitomo users will need to sign up to an official My Nintendo account on March 31, which is Nintendo’s new nifty cross-platform networking and rewards service.

The first of four planned smartphone apps Nintendo is looking to launch by 2017, Miitomo has already racked up one million downloads in Japan.

Nintendo are coming for your smartphone, never be bored again.

Nintendo Miitomo will be available on the iOS and Android stores from March 31.
