The new games console, dubbed the NX will launch March 2017.

It’s all change at Nintendo.

Hot after the release of its first smartphone game, Miittomo, the legendary Japanese videogame company has announced it will launch a brand new games console in March 2017.

Dubbed the NX, the much-rumoured games console will look to replace the WiiU as the primary home games console for fans of Mario, Zelda, Samus and more.

News of the upcoming games console sent gamers across the world into delirium.

But many gamers came to question the timing of Nintendo’s announcement, seeing it as a weak response to apparently dwindling sales.

Rumours have circled Nintendo regarding a new console, with many speculating that Nintendo is planning for the NX to be more powerful than the Playstation 4 & Xbox One. There are also whispers of a the console to boast a touchscreen controller, similar to the WiiU, but perhaps to a scaled-down effect.

While Nintendo was yet to confirm any of those titbits with their NX announcement, what they did confirm was the console would not be the focus of the company at E3, the world’s biggest games convention.

Instead, something just as good, the new Legend Of Zelda game, would be a launch title for the new console alongside a WiiU release.

Also among the Nintendo announcements? The next batch of smartphone releases from the company.

Promising to bring over the Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem franchises to iOS and Android devices, it looks like more than ever Nintendo is giving gamers more ways to play.
