Interns are paid very well at companies like Google, Facebook and Snapchat

Snapchat comes out on top...

The traditional view of the intern in the media is the put-on servant of the permanent staff, forever on a coffee run or dealing with mind-numbing Excel sheets.

The broke intern stereotype is one we all know, and we’ve see it played out in TV and films again and again.

It looks like this may not be a very accurate representation after all. Business Insider have found out just how much some interns at the biggest tech companies in the world are raking in, and it will make you sick with jealousy.

The data was collated by Rodney Folz, who is a student at UC Berkeley in California.

Folz shared a survey with current interns at a whole host of companies, coding-based Facebook groups, email lists, and computer science departments to come up with estimations of how much your average intern takes in per month.

The monthly salaries range from $10k a month in Snapchat with an added bonus of $1.5k towards housing costs, to e-commerce giant Amazon giving interns a respectable $6k per month with similar benefits.

While this seems like a lavish amount of money to earn at entry level, it’s important to note that the cost of living in many of the tech hubs in the States means that a salary like this is a basic necessity for interns to survive.

San Francisco is the base for many of these companies, and with the rents there averaging at  $3k+ for an apartment, the intern pay packet starts to make a lot more sense.
