Everything you need to know about ‘Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’

Get excited for November 4.

Carl Anka

Call Of Duty is back and this time we’re going to SPAAAAAACE.

The first reveal trailer for Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare went live this week and it looks like the first person franchise is getting a distinctly sci-fi tinge with its spare faring gameplay.

The trailer came with a lot for us to digest. Here’s what the JOE team know about the new Call Of Duty game.

1 – It’s coming from developers Infinity WardCallofDuty-Infinite Warfare

There are three developers now handling the Call Of Duty franchise, each with their own different spin on the much loved series. Treyarch are the bods behind the Black Ops series and are responsible for the much loved Zombies mode.

Sledgehammer got their first shake of the stick in Call Of Duty: Advanced Warfare, taking the series into the world of robot exoskeletons. Finally there’s Infinity Ward – the house that started things off with the originalCall Of Duty game all the way back in 2003. They also made the original Modern Warfare game.

Infinite Warfare will be coming to us from Infinity Ward in their first foray into near future shooting. As big fans of the original Call Of DutyModern Warfare, consider us excited for more of the tense action and expert level design Infinity Ward are known for. Here’s hoping we get another level like “All Ghillied Up”.

2 – It’s going to be set in SPACE

Infinite Warfare - Warship

Rumours have swirled the Call Of Duty franchise for years: when will gamers properly get to go to space. After teasing us for years with levels set slightly above planet Earth and a couple of zero gravity segments, Infinite Warfare will finally take us to the stars in a proper space-faring adventure as you take on the “Settlement Defense Front” – who sound like a narked off bunch of space colonisers.

While most of the Infinite Warfare trailer seems to be set just inside Earth’s orbit, there is that wonderful shot where you steer your warship deep into the cosmos for a battle, hopefully in a more open world level.  Infinity Ward has warship battles will “explore the weight of leadership and responsibility” and allow players to “take command against a relentless enemy.”

Here’s hoping we’ll be allowed to cause some proper sci-fi destruction as the game progresses.

3 – There won’t be ray guns. Yet

Infinite Warfare - Spacesuits

While things will be set in the near future in Infinite Warfare, it doesn’t quite look like the game will have us firing off blaster pistols at each other like we’re in Star Wars.

Tech is looking suitably futuristic with exoskeletons, armoured mechs and fancy drones flying about the place. Earlier this year we reported industry insiders are claiming Infinite Warfare will make Black Ops 3 “feel like the Stone Age”, so consider us pumped for what may be in store for for the game’s final act.

3 – There will be a Zombies Mode

Call of Duty- Zombies

In a lovely little treat, Treyarch have let Infinity Ward pack a Zombie Mode into Infinite Warfare. With Zombies quickly becoming a fan favourite of the entire series, we’re excited to see what spin the Modern Warfare bods can put on the horde defense mode.

4 – The Legacy Edition will come with a Modern Warfare remastering

Infinite Warfare - Modern Warfare Remaster

In an added incentive for those who like a pre-order, Infinite Warfare’s Legacy Edition,Legacy Pro and Digital Deluxe (that’s the $80+ flavourings) will come with Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare – Remastered. As the official Activision website reports, the digital download offering will bring “a full campaign and 10 multiplayer maps from the original Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare game remastered in stunning high-definition”.

Boasting a full progression system and refined versions of classic single player levels such as “Crew Expendable”, the remaster will be a wonderful journey through one of the best games of the last generation. We only wish Infinity Ward would do the rest of us a solid and release Modern Warfare – Remastered as a separate game at a later date.

5 – The game is out November 4 for Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC

See you online. We play Team Deathmatch and Demolition…
