But a new app claims to help to sort out temporary car insurance for you. Cuvva queries the DVLA database on your behalf to give you on-demand car insurance for periods as short as one hour.
Think of it as a handy way to pitch in if a mate's had a drink. Or of you're borrowing a car for a day trip or moving house.
The process takes about 10 minutes when you first sign up, but once you've paid your fee (starting costs start at £7 for an hour), you're away.
