Yaya Toure apologises for “misunderstandings” as he tries to end war with Pep Guardiola

Yaya Toure has apologised to Manchester City and Pep Guardiola as he bids to end his war with the manager.

Toure has not played for City since a European qualifier against Steaua Bucharest in August, after Guardiola's decision to leave him out of the Champions League squad in September prompted his agent Dimitri Seluk to criticise the Etihad chief. Guardiola immediately responded by freezing Toure out and insisting he would not play again until Seluk apologised. And now Toure himself has tried to pave the way for a return to the team by releasing a statement of his own:

"I wish to apologise - on behalf of myself and those who represent me - to the management team and all those working at the club for the misunderstandings from the past. "Those statements do not represent my views on the club or the people who work there.

It remains to be seen whether this will be enough for Guardiola to allow Toure back into the squad.
