A return to Everton could be on the cards for Wayne Rooney
Wayne Rooney is being tipped for the Everton job following the shock sacking of Sean Dyche.
Dyche has had a mixed time at The Toffees, keeping them up against the adversity of points deductions and installing a resilience to relegation as they float precariously around the bottom three,
The club released a statement on Thursday afternoon stating: “Everton Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as Senior Men’s First Team Manager with immediate effect.
“Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer have also left the Club.
“The process to appoint a new manager is under way and an update will be provided in due course.
“Under-18s Head Coach Leighton Baines and Club Captain Seamus Coleman will take charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis.”
Currently, Everton sit in 16th place only a point off the relegation zone, meaning that the manager to replace Sean Dyche would have to be competent enough to keep the side up.
With Jose Mourinho already being ruled out by David Ornstein and The Athletic, fans have take to social media to tip the recently jobless Wayne Rooney to take the reigns at his boyhood club.
One fans said: “Rooney to Everton, written in the stars #toffees
Another user wrote: “Give it Rooney til end of season… #Everton“
Meanwhile one supporter commented: “Surely Rooney for Everton?”
Rooney was recently sacked from a role as Plymouth Argyle manager on New Year’s Eve after finding themselves bottom in the Championship.
However, his knowledge of his former club could prove to be the selling point for a reunion between Rooney and The Toffees.
