Shane Long, of all people
Shane Long scored the fastest goal in Premier League history on Tuesday evening, breaking Ledley King’s 19-year-old record. Yes, the Shane Long. Five goals a season, tireless running, that Shane Long. Southampton didn’t even take kick off.
Let me talk you through the goal.
Watford take kick-off, the ball goes back to Craig Cathcart at centre-back. Fine, happens all the time. Shane Long chases him down, also normal, we see him do that often, with varying success rates.
Long then blocks Cathcart’s lofted pass, and fortuitously deflects the ball goal-bound. The Irishman then sprints past Cathcart (not hard) before delicately chipping the ball over Ben Foster. Fair play Shane, that’s a good goal.
⏱ – 6 SECONDS!
Shane Long has just scored the quickest EVER goal in @premierleague history! ??
