Watch Roy Keane scold a journalist after being asked about James McCarthy

"Do your homework"

Robert Redmond

Hilarious for the viewer, terrifying if you’re the reporter.

Roy Keane is an intimidating man. He once proved to be better in nets than the Sunderland goalkeeper during training, he karate-kicked a tactics board in front of his players and then there’s the whole Saipan incident, and a certain run-in with Alf-Inge Haaland’s knee.

History tells us that the Republic of Ireland assistant manager isn’t someone you want to get on the wrong side of, particularly in a press conference.

Keane was asked a question he didn’t seem to like in Friday’s press conference, ahead of Ireland’s trip to Serbia for their opening game of the World Cup qualification campaign.

A reporter asked Keane about James McCarthy’s situation at Everton. As much as Everton’s billionaire owner would like to convince us otherwise, it seemed that the Ireland midfielder was destined to be moved on from Goodison Park on transfer deadline day as Ronald Koeman tried to bring French international Moussa Sissoko to the club.

Assuming that he had now fallen out of favour with the Toffees, Keane was asked if he had any advice for McCarthy. The former Manchester United skipper definitely didn’t have any advice for the player, although he did have some strong words for the reporter.
