The little boy inside him has spoken again, and Robin van Persie is heading home.

Now 34, the Dutchman has been on the books of Fenerbahce since leaving Manchester United in 2015. However, the Turkish club agreed to cancel his contract this week – paving the way for him to return to first club, Feyenoord.

The Dutch champions confirmed the news on Friday, posting a throwback video of striker during his first stint with the club.

Van Persie played for the Rotterdam club during his late teens before moving to Arsenal in 2004. He would spend eight years in North London before eventually joining United.

Ironically, with Alexis Sanchez poised to make a similar move in the coming days, Arsene Wenger recently said that Van Persie’s departure hurt Arsenal far more than the Chilean’s imminent exit would.

“We took Van Persie when he played in the reserve team at Feyenoord,” Wenger explained. “We made a long work with him. When you get them there and, after they leave, that is the most painful.”

As things stand, Sanchez is expected to head to Old Trafford with Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving in the opposite direction. Arsenal are also pursuing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – a former teammate of Mkhitaryan at Borussia Dortmund.
