As the referee tried to sprint to safety, he had his legs swept from under him by a tackle before being savagely beaten by the assailants.
Riot police rushed to the pitch to protect the officials, at least one of which was unable to walk from the pitch and required a stretcher.
The so-called “fans” also caused substantial damage to the stadium, smashing up seats and breaking windows at the stadium’s main entrance.
There’s no place for this in football.
