While over a decade may have slipped by since Dennis Bergkamp last played a game of professional football, the former Arsenal man showed this weekend that he still has an eye for goal.
Since retiring in 2006, Bergkamp has spent most of his time involved in the coaching set up at first club, Ajax. On Saturday, he returned to the pitch, representing Ajax in a memorial match to mark the twentieth anniversary of former player Dick van Dijk's death.
The 48-year-old scored a couple of goals in the game, one of which has since been making waves on social media. Now featured on Ajax TV - the club's YouTube channel - it's easy to see why...
First receiving the ball with his back to goal around 25 yards out, Bergkamp quickly finds a teammate with a smart back-heeled pass. After a few touches from the teammate, the ball is returned to the former Arsenal man, who makes light work of the close attention he is receiving from a defender with an effortless, classically Bergkamp turn. In turning his marker, Bergkamp has engineered enough space for a shot, which he fires beyond a diving goalkeeper and into the top corner of the goal.
