Correction:An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that Vitali Klitschko was directly involved in the operation and had killed six people.
'We killed some people, I guess six people last night'
Former heavyweight boxer Vitali Klitschko has stated that a special operation in Kyiv resulted in the killing of six Russian troops while defending Ukraine against the Kremlin's invasion.
The current Mayor of Kyiv is currently running the city's response to the invasion alongside brother and ex-heavyweight world champion Wladimir after the pair announced their intention to take up arms against Russian President Vladimir Putin's army.
In an interview with Sky News, the 50-year-old was questioned on reports that suggested Ukrainian forces were seeking out separate Russian groups within the capital city.
When asked how 'successful' the operation had been the night before, Vitali responded: "We killed some people, I guess six people last night."
Vitali added that the Ukrainian people will fight for as long as they need to in order to protect their homeland, while instructing Russians to 'go back home'.
It comes after the Klitschko brothers released a video calling for all international partners to be united following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which began last Thursday (February 24).
Wladimir - with Vitali stood next to him - delivered a passionate message pleading for support and asking for unity.
He said: "I’m calling to all international partners to observe this tragedy that is happening nowadays in Ukraine and this senseless war which is not going to have any winners or losers.
"I just want to tell you we must stay united against this aggression, this Russian aggression.
"Don’t let it continue happening in Ukraine, don’t let it happen in Europe and eventually in the world."
"United we’re strong. Support Ukraine, thank you."
Both Wladimir and Vitali have reportedly been named on Vladimir Putin's 23-man 'kill list' following Russia's ongoing invasion, with 400 highly trained Russian mercenaries thought to have been sent to the capital city with instructions to assassinate Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
