Thepchaiya Un-Nooh was on course for a 147 break and a hefty bonus cheque of £44,000 at the UK Championships in York when it all went wrong.

The Thai snooker star had sunk 35 consecutive balls and left himself with a relatively simple black to complete the maximum break. At 112, Un-Nooh showed unreal nerve to sink the final red: That pot provided momentum that took him all the way to the final black. Then, life got complicated: Following his match, which he lost 6-2 to Neil Robertson, Un-Nooh was informed of his costly miss. "44,000 pounds?" he repeated in disbelief. "You should have told me before I potted the black ... I have nothing to say. I got 15 blacks and then missed the black number 16. So disappointed. Too much pressure on the black. "In the eighth frame I was still thinking about the black ball, that black ball will make me have nightmares tonight."
