Lindelof suffered breathing difficulties at Norwich on Saturday

Victor Lindelof is undergoing tests into the breathing difficulties he suffered at the weekend, but it is not thought to be related to the Covid outbreak at the club.

United’s interim manager Ralf Rangnick said Lindelof had been struggling to breathe and had experienced pain in his chest.

“Victor is currently undergoing a series of precautionary investigations,” the club said in a statement.

“However, he has recovered well from the episode he experienced in the match against Norwich.

“All indications are that this is not linked to any COVID outbreak within the club.”

The Red Devils confirmed that they had recorded a “small number” of positive Covid-19 cases among first-team players and staff on Sunday, just one day after they beat Norwich.

The players and staff who tested positive are currently isolating, with United’s game against Brentford that was due to be played on Tuesday cancelled as a result.

However, Lindelof’s breathing difficulties are not thought to be related to the Covid-19 outbreak at the club.

His wife – Maja – has since revealed that the defender has been given a heart monitor as club doctors try to determine the cause of the problems he suffered during the game.

In a blog entry posted on Monday, she wrote: “It was a scary match to watch and Victor was very concerned afterwards. Yesterday he did a lot of tests and has a heart monitor on for two days to make sure everything is OK.

“Everything seems to be OK as luck would have it and we are waiting for answers to the last tests that will end tomorrow.”

While Rangnick provided a positive update on Lindelof’s condition straight after the Norwich tie, United shot-stopper David de Gea stated that the incident reminded him of Christian Eriksen and Sergio Aguero – both of whom are currently sidelined with heart problems.

It is expected that Barcelona striker Aguero will announce his retirement from football on Wednesday.
