An update has been given after Michail Antonio was airlifted this afternoon to hospital after he was involved in a serious car crash today (7 December).
The accident was confirmed by West Ham in a statement released by the club on X.
The club said: "West Ham United can confirm striker Michail Antonio has today been involved in a road traffic accident. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at the Club are with Michail, his family and friends at this time. The Club will issue an update in due course."
Fortunately some good news has now been released as West Ham have confirmed the player is stable and communicating.
In a statement the club said: "West Ham United can confirm that Michail Antonio is in a stable condition following a road traffic accident this afternoon in the Essex area.
"Michail is conscious and communicating and is currently under close supervision at a central London hospital.
"At this difficult time, we kindly ask everyone to respect the privacy of Michail and his family. The Club will make no further comment this evening, but will issue a further update in due course."
The Jamaican striker featured in West Ham's 3-1 loss to Leicester City on Tuesday after coming off the bench.
The forward is a popular figure around the East London club, notably being West Ham's all time leading goal scorer in the Premier League.
He has scored 83 goals and assisted 41 in 323 games for the Irons.
Thoughts go out to the player, family and club.
