United have responded

Manchester United have said they will consider their response after it emerged Cristiano Ronaldo had given a tell-all interview to Piers Morgan.

Details of the interview, the full version of which is scheduled to be aired later this week, appeared online on Sunday night.

Ronaldo, who expressed a wish to leave Old Trafford in the summer, said he feels ‘betrayed’ by the club, does not respect manager Erik ten Hag and feels he is being forced out.

Reports have since claimed Ronaldo will face a fine of £1m from United, whereas others claim he could be released from his contract over the nature of his comments.

United, meanwhile, insist they will consider their response to the interview when the full facts behind it have been established.

A full statement from the club said:

‘Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established.

Our focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff, and fans.’

Ronaldo’s last appearance for United came in their Premier League defeat by Aston Villa over a week ago, where Ten Hag named him as captain.

Ronaldo is understood to have informed the club he was ill for the League Cup game against Villa in midweek and Sunday’s last-gasp win at Fulham.
