Unai Emery hits back at bizarre fan request after Southampton friendly

You can’t really blame him for being annoyed, tbh

Footage has emerged on social media showing Unai Emery responding to a strange fan request after Villarreal’s friendly match against Southampton on Saturday.

The former Arsenal manager was back in England as his side faced off against Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men at the St Mary’s stadium.

The LaLiga club came out on top with a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Yeremy Pino and Gerard Moreno, with Joe Aribo scoring a consolation goal for the Saints.

After the match, Emery posed for pictures with fans and signed autographs outside the stadium. However, things quickly took an unexpected turn when someone asked Spaniard to say something.

One fan asked Emery to say “Good ebening”, which was in reference to his time as a manager. The 50-year-old has often opened his interviews by saying “Good evening”, but due to his accent it sounded as he was saying, “Good ebening”.

While this was happening, another person said “I think you did very good at Arsenal”.

Despite winning the friendly match, Emery was in no mood to entertain the individual’s unnecessary request. He was – understandably – annoyed by the comments, and reacted by putting his middle finger up at the camera.

Although his time with Arsenal was far from successful, he has since rebuilt his reputation in Spain – guiding Villarreal to Europa League glory in 2021 after beating Manchester United in the final on penalties.

Villarreal also reached the semi final of the Champions League last season, beating Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Serie A giants Juvents on the way, before losing to Liverpool.

Emery’s side begin their new campaign against Valladolid on August 13.
