Not the smartest move

When the UFC came to Brazil, it was always going to be a a fiesty night.

Brazilian fans are as passionate as they come, and 45,000 of them packed into the Arena da Baixada in Curitiba on Saturday night for UFC 198.

The main event saw home favourite Fabricio Werdum lose his heavyweight title to Stipe Miocic in a one-punch finish which is becoming a worrying trend for Brazilian fighters, considering how Jose Aldo was defeated at UFC 194.

But Werdum wasn’t the only local on the night’s card, as Cris Cyborg dismantled her opponent to announce her UFC arrival and Demian Maia overcame the American Matt Brown during the prelims.

UFC 198 Weigh-ins

Maia got the better of Brown with a rear naked choke hold with just 30 seconds remaining in the fight, but it was the action on the way to the octagon that had people talking.

As Brown made the trip from the changing rooms to the cage, he passed through a sea of hyped-up Brazilian fight fans, who were apparently looking to get in on some of the action themselves.

On at least three different occasions during his brief walkout, Brown was either struck on the head or grabbed in some way by members of the audience.

While he kept his cool at first, the third occasion proved a step too far for Brown who retaliated by directing a punch in the direction of the person who grabbed him.
