UFC 199 medical suspensions reveal true cost of the fight of the night

Long lay-offs

Michael Bisping could fight again this weekend if he wanted. Others were not so lucky.

The list of medical suspensions following UFC 199 has been obtained by MMA Junkie and many fighters are facing long lay-offs.

Bisping, who knocked out Luke Rockhold on Saturday night, is finishing out a mandatory seven-day suspension but has been given a clean bill of health. Rockhold is suspended for 45 days with no contact allowed for the first 30.

The definitive suspension was handed down to Hector Lombard, who was knocked out by Dan Henderson. He has been stood down from active fighting duty, with no exceptions, for six months.

Also facing six-month lay-offs are Dong Hyun Kim and Polo Reyes, who took the $50,000 ‘Fight of the Night’ pay-out for their three-round war.

The fight was a 12-minute, straight up brawl that was only decided midway through the final round when Reyes’ crunching right hand secured a TKO win.

Here is the wording of their suspensions:

  • Polo Reyes: 180 days with no contact or until cleared by physician for possible fractures to both hands and right elbow and suspended 45 days with 30 days contact for hard bout
  • “Maestro” Dong Hyun Kim: 180 days with no contact or until cleared by physician for possible fracture to left nose, 60 days with 60 days no contact or until cleared by physician for right eye laceration and suspended 45 days with 30 days contact for knockout

Not bad for the first fight on Fight Pass.

$50,000 hard, hard earned.

In total, 13 fighters received suspensions after medical checks. You can check out the full list here.
