Stoke's account was referring to, of course, Paul Pogba, the world's most expensive player who cost United £89m from Juventus last summer.
The Republic of Ireland midfielder performed admirably against Pogba in the game.
If it wasn't for Wayne Rooney's stunning free-kick in stoppage-time, which rescued a point for United, Whelan would have been on the winning side.
The 33-year-old has played over 300 times for Stoke, and he's never let the team down.
