Tottenham sent new signing contract with Luis Diaz’s name on it

This just about sums Spurs’ transfer window up

Tottenham Hotspur reportedly sent new signing Rodrigo Bentancur a contract with previous transfer target Luis Diaz’s name on it.

Antonio Conte’s side were linked with several players during the January transfer window, with Spurs attempting to add to their ranks as they target a top four position in the Premier League.

While Spurs weren’t able to land their top targets – with Adama Traore making a return to Barcelona from Wolves and Diaz making a late switch to Liverpool – the north London outfit managed to seal the signings of Juventus duo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski.

However, it now appears that even one of those deals didn’t quite go as smoothly as they’d hoped, with Portuguese outlet Record reporting that Spurs left Diaz’s name on the contract sent to Bentancur.

Journalist Sergio Krithinas stated that the player’s lawyer was left very ‘surprised’ when he saw that the contract included the Colombian international’s name, especially as the winger had already signed for Liverpool.

Diaz was initially linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, however, the Porto man opted to sign for the Reds at the last minute – much to the frustration of Spurs, and delight of Liverpool.

He has scored 16 goals in 28 games in all competitions for Porto this campaign, as well as registering six assists.

Despite this, Spurs will undoubtedly be pleased that they managed to sign Bentancur and Kulusevski, even if they weren’t the club’s first choice signings.

They were also rejected by non-league 19-year-old winger Ollie Tanner, with Spurs unable to reach an agreement on personal terms with the player.

With Tanguy Ndombele, Bryan Gil, Giovani Lo Celso and Dele Alli all leaving the club in January, it does appear that Conte is starting to mould the squad into his liking.
