Tottenham Hotspur reveal imaginative name for new stadium

White Hart Lane Mk II moves a step closer

Construction work on the new home of Tottenham, situated next to the site of their old ground, is set to be complete in the weeks ahead.

On Thursday, fans discovered the imaginative new name of their new stadium: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Although the club didn’t fully explain the reason for the name, it’s assumed they eventually settled on ‘Tottenham Hotspur Stadium’ due to the new ground being a stadium that will belong to Tottenham Hotspur. Clever stuff, really.

A statement from Spurs revealed the stadium will ‘currently’ go by this name, perhaps suggesting this may change in the future. Discussing the brand identity of their new home, the statement also points out that the ‘A’ in ‘Stadium’ has deliberately been made to look like an arrow pointing northward – symbolising the club’s position in north London.

After leaving White Hart Lane at the end of the 2016/17 campaign, the club spent last season playing home games at Wembley. They are scheduled to play their first game at their new 62,000-capacity home on 15 September, against Liverpool.

Spurs will begin the new Premier League season away at Newcastle on August 11. They are currently preparing for the new season in the US, where they will take on Barcelona in the Pasadena Rose Bowl on Sunday.
