Tottenham Hotspur hammer Real Madrid and Gary Lineker trolls Karim Benzema again

He couldn't resist. What a night for Spurs

What a night it has been for Tottenham Hotspur.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side went top of their Champions League group with an emphatic 3-1 win over Real Madrid at Wembley. Spurs subjected the European Champions to their first loss in the group stages since 2012 and did it with a midfield of Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko.

All the talk before the game was about Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane, but it was Dele Alli who grabbed the headlines. The Spurs midfielder scored twice before Christian Eriksen wrapped up the win with a goal on the counter-attack with 25 minutes to play.

Alli’s first goal came at the end of an impressive Spurs move.

Winks lofted a pass over Marcelo and into the path of an unmarked Kieran Trippier, who appeared to be offside. The full-back volleyed an accurate low-cross towards Alli, who scored from close range.

Alli’s second goal came after he beat Casemiro in midfield and ran towards goal. He made space for a shot and his effort took a massive deflection off Madrid captain Sergio Ramos.

Then Eriksen made it 3-0, finishing off a quick Spurs counter-attack against a disjointed Madrid defence. Ronaldo pulled a goal back for Zinedine Zidane’s team but it wasn’t enough to ruin Spurs’ night.

Former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker also seemed to enjoy the win and the struggles of Karim Benzema.

Zidane substituted the French striker off in the 73rd minute for Marco Asensio, but before that the BT Sport presenter made a joke at Benzema’s expense.

Lineker and Benzema have beef after the former Barcelona striker suggested he was “a tad overrated.”

Benzema didn’t like this and said he “felt sorry for” Lineker and ex-footballers who “share their hate.”

Lineker responded by saying the striker was also “a tad over-sensitive” and wasn’t going to miss a chance to take another cheeky dig during Madrid’s difficult night at Wembley.
