Tony Bellew couldn’t get over how bloody good Katie Taylor is

"She's an absolute class act"

What an impressive victory.

Katie Taylor secured her fourth professional victory and has maintained her unbeaten record in the most impressive of fashions at the Manchester Arena on Saturday night.

It was clear to see how comfortable the Irish boxer was just moments into the fight. She immediately went on the offensive and attempted to guide her opponent to the ropes or the corner on any given occasion.

Taylor’s performance was characterised by a high work-rate, relentless combinations and landing different types of shots on Milena Koleva.

Many, of course, expected Taylor to win tonight, but the fight was predicted to be her toughest challenge yet in as a professional boxer – especially considering Koleva had recently fought for a world-title.

Taylor allayed any of these concerns with a dominating performance. The highlight of which was knocking down the 28-year-old Bulgarian in the seventh round, after a ferocious flurry of punches.

One man who was in awe of her performance was English boxing’s man of the moment, Tony Bellew.

Taylor fought on the undercard of Bellew’s bout against David Haye in London earlier this month, and the Liverpudlian was glowing in his praise of one of Ireland’s biggest sporting talents.

“She’s an absolute class act, the punches she throws, the variety in her shots. She’s just…she’s the full package. She’s just gone in there tonight against a former world-title challenger and she hurt her on multiple occasions,” Bellew told Sky Sports.

It was the combinations from Taylor which really impressed Bellew.

“As you see here, the combination punching from her is outstanding. I am a Katie Taylor fan. I am someone who turned up and I was cheering for her tonight as you guys heard…she’s a breath of fresh air and she’s fantastic for the sport.”

A glowing endorsement indeed.
