Tim Sherwood reckons Manchester City will sign Michael Carrick in January

Of course they will, Tim...

Tim Sherwood was very impressed with Michael Carrick’s performance against Fenerbahce, and rightly so.

The Manchester United midfielder played very well in his side’s 4-1 victory in the Europa League, in what was just his third appearance of the season. Carrick’s manager Jose Mourinho also singled out the 35-year-old for praise following the game

“Michael gave us the balance, he gave us the dynamic, the four players who played in front of them were good,” Mourinho said.

Over on ITV’s highlights of the evening’s Europa League games, Tim Sherwood went a step further in his praise of Carrick.

“Michael Carrick plays in every single Premier League team,” the former Aston Villa manager said.

“He’s the first name on the teamsheet in my opinion. Manchester City are crying out for a Michael Carrick. They play Fernando or Fernandinho in there. They’re good at what they do, but they can’t do what he can do. They can’t link the play like Michael Carrick.”

Sherwood even reckons that Manchester City’s need for a player like Carrick is so desperate they will, in fact, sign the player from their arch-rivals in January.

Sorry, Tim, we can’t see it happening, but, as always, we welcome your input.
