The public criticism of match officials could cost Thomas Tuchel with a FIFA sanction upon culmination of the 2026 World Cup, it has been revealed.
So far at this summer’s tournament, a number of officials have been on the receiving end of backlash from players and managers, for their controversial calls during games.
According to The Athletic, action could be taken in the aftermath of this summer's competition, while any sanctions will be dependent on referee reports and other contributing factors.
Following England’s 3-2 win over Mexico in the round of 16, Tuchel lambasted referee Alireza Faghani.
“It’s not good enough. He (the referee) can send any team out in any moment”, The Three Lions’ coach said.
“It’s just not good enough. It’s just erratic, it’s just unreliable in matches. Now, we have two fourth officials who just scream at you if you put one foot out of a coaching zone. It’s just not good enough.”
For comparison, in the Premier League touchline bans and fines are issued to particularly outspoken managers.
However, FIFA reportedly is reserving its decision to do so until the conclusion of the World Cup.
Most likely, Tuchel will have felt especially aggrieved by Quansah's red card considering right-back has been a problem position for England for the duration of this World Cup.
As Tino Livramento was forced to pull out of the tournament early doors to undergo surgery on a minor issue, Reece James and Djed Spence have also been battling their own respective injuries in part.
Meanwhile, as a result of Quansah ruled out of participation until Sunday's final, Tuchel has had to think quickly on his feet and adapt accordingly.
In England’s 2-1 win over Norway at the weekend, John Stones was partnered with Marc Guehi, while Ezri Konsa operated on the right.
