While 19-year-old Anthony Martial is settling in nicely to Premier League life, 17-year-old Regan Poole must settle for friendlies and training with the United academy.

On the same day that United completed the £36m transfer of Martial, from Monaco, they signed up a defensive prospect from Newport County for a fee that, should he make a senior appearance, rise to £400,000.

United signed Poole – a centre back who played 15 times for Newport last season – as one for the future, following glowing reports from their scouts.
