Thiago Silva has fired back at Paul Scholes after the former Manchester United midfielder claimed Cristiano Ronaldo would find it ‘easy’ to play against him.

Chelsea welcomed United to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, with the Blues situated at the top of the Premier League, whereas the Red Devils came into the game 12 points behind the London outfit.

Prior to kick-off, ex-United star Scholes told Premier League productions that Ronaldo – who was dropped to the bench for the match – would find it ‘easy’ to play against Blues defender Silva.

Evidently, it was always going to be difficult to judge when the Portuguese captain was on the bench, but even when he did enter the game in the 64th minute, he failed to positively impact the match for United.

However, Silva once again demonstrated his quality at the Bridge, putting in a composed performance as Thomas Tuchel’s side came from a goal down to secure a 1-1 draw and maintain their position at the top of the league.

The veteran Brazilian defender was impressive throughout, making one block, winning five of his defensive duels, making three clearances and recording eight recoveries as he played the full 90 minutes of the draw, as per SofaScore.

The former Paris Saint-Germain player also won Chelsea a penalty after being fouled by Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the penalty area – with Jorginho making up for his previous error by converting the spot-kick.

On the other hand, Ronaldo – who replaced Marcus Rashford – failed to record a shot of any description, as well as losing all six of his duels.

Following the game, Silva responded to Scholes’ remark, having been made aware of his pre-match comments by a Chelsea fan page on Instagram.

“According to Paul Scholes, facing Thiago Silva would have been easy for Cristiano Ronaldo,” the fan page captioned the post, showing Ronaldo getting booked following an interaction with Silva.

Silva replied to the post by suggesting that it is ‘easy’ for ex-players to criticised current professionals.

“It is always easy , especially for those who have stopped playing!!,” Silva wrote along with three laughing emojis.

The Brazilian has made 10 league appearances so far this season, helping the Blues to record five clean sheets while conceding just five goals in those games.
