The fight community reacts to Conor McGregor’s bloody battle of attrition with Nate Diaz

What a war.

Darragh Murphy

An instant classic.

We were treated to an absolute barn-burner of a main event at the new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night as Conor McGregor gave every ounce of energy in his body to claim a majority decision over arch-rival Nate Diaz.

Five months since tapping out to a rear naked choke, McGregor’s will would not be broken as he came back from the brink to paint his second wind all over Diaz’s face in their welterweight bout.

The Notorious invested in leg kicks earlier and they returned profitably in the later rounds as Diaz lost the pop on his striking as McGregor did enough in two judges’ estimations to be considered a victor, while the third marked it down as a draw.

Some of their fellow colleagues actually scored the bout for the Stockton fighter.

Others echoed the beliefs of the judges in charge of the bout.

While most were just happy to see a classic and look forward to the realisation of the most sacred of all MMA grudge matches… the trilogy.

We’re not even a day removed from the second round and people are already asking for a third. At this stage, it almost feels inevitable.

You can’t just end things at a tie, right?
