A swimmer who was reportedly removed from the athlete's village for creating an 'inappropriate environment' has broken her silence on the claims.
Paraguayan swimmer, Luana Alonso was staying at the village for the duration of the Paris Games but the Paraguay Olympic Committee announced she had been asked to leave.
Alonso finished sixth in the 100m butterfly 0.24 seconds behind Georgia’s Ana Nizharadze and missed out on qualifying for the semi-finals of the event after swimming three seconds slower than her personal best.
The 20-year-old then announced her retirement from the sport via a post on her Instagram account which boasts 500,000 followers.
Alonso has now been removed due to her ‘inappropriate behaviour’ but the statement did not expand or clarify what the behaviour was.
Larissa Schaerer, the head of the COP mission, said: "Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay.
"We thank her for proceeding as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the Athletes' Village."
Now, Alonso has responded to the claims, putting across her side of the story. She once again took to her Instagram Stories as she shared a photo of herself watching the sunset on a balcony with a hot drink in hand.
The caption read: "I just wanted to clarify that they never took me out or expelled me from anywhere, stop spreading false information.
"I don't want to give any statement but I'm not going to let lies affect me either."
There was speculation Alonso had taken a trip to Disneyland instead of supporting her teammates which had angered the Paraguay Olympic committee and that she had chosen to wear her own clothes instead the official kit around the village but those claims have not bee verified.
