Swansea quickly reminded of Eric Bailly tweet after defender opens the scoring

Manchester United fans loved this

If you’re going to take the piss out of a player, you’d best be ready to stand by your joke.

Swansea City’s mocking tweet about Manchester United defender Eric Bailly didn’t take very long to backfire on Saturday afternoon, when the visitors claimed a 4-0 victory over the Welsh outfit.

Bailly opened the scoring when he reacted first to a Paul Pogba header which rebounded back off Swansea’s crossbar.

But just minutes before the Ivorian’s first goal for the Red Devils went in, Swansea’s official Twitter account enjoyed a bit of a laugh at a clearance from Bailly in his own half.

As central defenders are often encouraged to do under pressure, Bailly put his foot through the ball and cleared the danger. But whoever was manning Swansea’s social media for the game saw the funny side of the unsophisticated piece of play.

Now let’s fast forward to five minutes later, when Bailly’s prodded effort nestled in the back of the hosts’ net.

Supporters were quick to remind the Swans of their joke at the expense of the defender just moments earlier while United continued their rampaging 4-0 rout at the Liberty Stadium, which was kick-started by Bailly on the stroke of half-time.
