Gerrard has set the account up to build the team spirit at Aston Villa

Steven Gerrard has created a private Instagram account for his Aston Villa squad as a way to help build the team spirit at the club, reports the Telegraph.

The account, named ‘Bodymoor1’ has been created to allow the squad at Villa to access clips of training sessions, tactical advice and motivational quotes from the coaching staff.

The account is followed by 35 people – all members of the Aston Villa side, and already has seven posts which are believed to include highlights from Gerrard’s first game in charge, where they beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0.

Gerrard believes that regular interaction between the squad on the account will help to harmonise the squad and bring them closer together.

It’s the latest change that the former Liverpool midfielder has made at Villa Park after he became the latest high-profile boss to impose a ban on sauces as well as fizzy drinks, hot chocolate and even some pudding options at the Villa canteen.

Gerrard’s method is something that he used during his time at Rangers and it seemed to prove a success as he went on to win a first top-flight Scottish title in 10 years for the Ibrox side – going undefeated in the process.

During a press conference at his new side, Gerrard explained the ways he wanted to make his mark on his new squad.

He said: “I want to bring my own style to it, we need to improve and the marginal gains we can get. The long-term plan is to be successful, from now until then and we will deliver.

“It’s a different league, different style, it’s where I want to be, where I want to challenge myself, they’re intelligent players and they will pick things up really well.

“We have a lot of talented players in the building but it takes time to put your stamp on it. When the time is right you will see an energetic, exciting Villa team. I am very confident of that.”

Villa face Crystal Palace this weekend as they look to make it back-to-back wins under new management.
