Step aside Conor McGregor, Brock Lesnar earns the biggest payday in UFC history

Putting McGregor in the shade

The landmark UFC 200 event took place in Las Vegas last night (early this morning our time) and it saw one of the most stacked cards in UFC history.

A whole host of potential main events were on the card but it was one fight which captured the imagination of even the most casual UFC fan.

That one fight was Brock Lesnar’s return to the octagon, having retired from the sport due to diverticulitis five years ago.

Lesnar beat Mark Hunt by unanimous decision in their clash, having been successful with takedowns in rounds one and three. A lot of people were impressed with Lesnar, who had gone into the fight as an underdog.

He may have been away for half a decade, but Lesnar remains a big star. And the biggest star would, by anyone’s logic, have the fattest cheque.

That was true last night, Brock Lesnar’s fight purse was a whopping $2.5 million for his fight with Hunt according to Kevin Iole of Fox Sports.

This dwarfs the previous record, held by the $1 million Conor McGregor received for his fight with Nate Diaz.

It’s important to note that these figures do not include the pay per view revenue which will come their way, and with UFC 200 on course to be the biggest PPV card ever, Lesnar can expect to add a healthy sum to the $2.5 million he’s already banked…
