Sonny Bill Williams raves about Wales U20 stars after outrageous score

Patrick McCarry

‘Remember that name, my friends’

Sonny Bill Williams has been all over the Six Nations this weekend, even getting in some of the U20s action, as Wales and Ireland scored some lovely tries.

The former All Blacks star won world renown for his brilliant attacking play and his ability to get the wildest, and most wonderful, offloads away.

It was no surprise, then, that he was tagged in a couple (hundred) tweets when Wales and Ireland’s U20 stars went offload crazy in a highly entertaining Friday night encounter.

Richie Murphy’s side trailed 15-7, early on in Colwyn Bay, but they came roaring back to score five more tries and win 44-27. One of the best scores of the game arrived in the second half as Leinster outhalf Sam Prendergast beat one Welsh player, drew in two others and got a high, flicked offload away for James Nicholson to score.

Watching the action from afar was Sonny Bill Williams, and he was quick to praise the Ireland youngster for his sublime try assist.

‘Sam Prendergast!’ he exclaimed, ‘Remember that name, my friends.’

The New Zealand rugby legend was also gushing about one of the Wales scores, which he described as ‘poetry in motion’.

Wales 13, Louie Hennessey and fullback Cameron Winnett both came up with lovely offloads that set up Ospreys winger Llien Morgan for a beautiful try.

Switching to the senior game, Williams has predicted Ireland for a Six Nations Grand Slam but still got in an old, familiar dig.

He believes Ireland have the form and momentum to win it all and peak before this year’s World Cup.

Glowing words from one of the best in the game.
