Sky and BT announce a new TV deal that’s fantastic news for sports fans

Conor Heneghan

No more forking out for two separate subscriptions to watch your favourite sports.

Sky and BT have announced that they have come to an agreement that will enable customers to access sports and entertainment channels through a single subscription.

That’s right, no need for separate Sky and BT subscriptions and no need to scan the Internet for dodgy streams of matches provided by the supplier to which you are not currently subscribed… although we’re sure you’re not into that sort of thing.

Under the agreement, Sky will receive wholesale supply of the BT Sport channels and vice versa, enabling viewers to access every single match of the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and Europa League shown on Sky and BT channels through one contract.

Sky will also make its NOW TV streaming service available on the BT TV set-top-box, offering BT TV customers access to channels such as Sky Atlantic, Sky One, Sky Living, Sky Sports and Sky Cinema.

While the cross supply service won’t be available to Sky or BT customers immediately, it is expected that the new services will be available to customers from early 2019.

It can’t come quickly enough.
