Manchester United’s Super Cup final against Real Madrid on Tuesday evening meant Jose Mourinho had to face his old team.

Mourinho’s three year tenure as Madrid manager ended in 2013 amid reports he had lost the trust of many players, particularly Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos.

The Madrid captain wasn’t exactly full of praise for his former coach before the game.

“Mourinho was just another coach I worked with in my football career and I have always learnt from others, from when I was a youngster at Sevilla,” Ramos said.

The Spanish defender also said that Zinedine Zidane, the current Madrid manager, is “very good at understanding our dressing room as a former player. Maybe that gives him an advantage.” In other words, he played the game at the highest level and Mourinho didn’t.

Maybe that’s reading too much into it, and Ramos and Jose are actually pals. Either way, the Madrid skipper seemed to find Mourinho’s complaints following Tuesday’s game pretty funny.

Mourinho complained to the officials following United’s 2-1 defeat. His team were outplayed on the night, and it’s no shame to lose to such an excellent team, but Jose wasn’t happy about something.

Ramos appeared to find it hilarious, laughing behind Mourinho’s back as he spoke to the referee.

A Spanish TV channel spotted the incident.
