Salah was targeted with laser beams when taking a penalty for Egypt
Senegal have been fined £143,000 by FIFA for poor fan behaviour after fans of the African nation targeted Mohamed Salah with laser beams during a World Cup play-off.
Salah missed a penalty as Egypt failed to qualify for the World Cup
Salah missed his spot-kick for Egypt as Senegal secured their place at the 2022 World Cup, however the game was marred as Salah has laser beams pointed at him when stepping up from 12 yards – impairing his vision.
The aftermath of the game saw the Egyptian Football Association make several accusations, claiming that their players had been racially abused, hit with bottles and stones as well as being targeted with lasers throughout the game.
FIFA have since confirmed that they have investigated a number of incidents. Those include the laser beams, a pitch invasion from the Senegal fans, an offensive banner on display in the stadium and the national federation’s “failure to ensure that law and order are maintained in the stadium.”
In addition to the fine, Senegal have also been ordered to play one competitive game behind closed doors, as confirmed by the Daily Mail.

FIFA have fined a number of nations in recent months
The World football governing body have issued a number of fines and stadium bans since January as a result of increasing violence and disorder at games.
Nigeria were also recently fined (£125,000) and ordered to play a game behind closed doors after fans invaded the pitch following their World Cup play-off exit to Ghana.
Congo and Lebanon have also faced fines for disorder in games against Morocco and Syria while Chile and Colombia have also been fined respectively.
