Scotland release brilliant fan reaction video to David Marshall save

“I’m so happy you get to see it, son”

Scotland, as you’ve probably heard by now, have ended their 22-year wait for a major finals appearance.

A tense night in Belgrade saw them get the better of Serbia on a penalty shootout, with David Marshall’s save from Aleksandar Mitrović sealing their place at next summer’s European Championships.

With no major finals appearance since the 1998 World Cup, the achievement clearly meant a lot to the players (if you’ve somehow missed Ryan Christie’s emotional post-match interview, do yourself a favour and watch it). It also meant a great deal to Scottish football fans, as a newly released video from the national side’s Twitter account makes perfectly clear.

The three-minute long video compiles footage of a number of fans watching Marshall’s match-winning save at home – and their joyous celebrations in the seconds that follow.

There are plenty of highlights – from ‘Stu’ announcing that he needed to go and hug his mum, to Kris Jarvie picking up his son and saying “I’m so happy you get to see it, son,” which, frankly, nearly finished this writer.

Football is good, isn’t it?

Scotland were one of the final teams to book their spot at Euro 2020 (do we still call it that?), and will face group games against Croatia, Czech Republic and England.
