A footballer contracted to Brazilian Serie A side Sao Paulo has been found dead with reports suggesting that he was "almost beheaded" and discovered with "his genitals severed". Daniel Corrêa Freitas, known commonly as simply Daniel, was a 24-year-old midfielder who had played for Sao Paulo since 2015 but was recently on loan at Serie B side Sao Bento, where he had played two games. The news of his death was confirmed on Monday by his parent club, who said in a tweet: "The Sao Paulo football club deeply regrets the death of midfielder Daniel Correa Freitas. Everything indicates the man was executed here on the street and dragged for about 100 feet." The motive behind the murder is not yet known, and an official cause of death has yet to be released by officials.
