The player has appealed the ruling

Santi Mina has been sentenced to four years in prison for sexual abuse. The 26-year-old footballer has appealed the sentencing.

Mina was also facing a sexual aggression charge, of which he was found not guilty.

The victim’s lawyers were seeking a nine-and-a-half year sentence, while the state prosecutor had requested eight years.

David Goldar, who had been accused of being an accomplice, was found not guilty.

The case dates back to 2017, when the victim accused Mina of raping here in a camper-van. Accusations against Goldar were based on the notion he did nothing to stop the assault taking place.

At the time of the assault, Mina played for Valencia, before he returned to his hometown club Celta Vigo back in 2019.

Celta had removed him from their squad until the appeals process is brought to a conclusion. They have also opened internal disciplinary proceedings to discuss various options the club can take.
