Sadio Mane scores stunning opening goal against Bayern Munich

Mane produced a moment of magic midway through the first-half

A superbly taken opening goal from Sadio Mane put Liverpool in charge of their Champions League last 16 tie against Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

Following a dull goalless draw at Anfield in February, the opening stages of the second leg in Bavaria appeared to be following the same pattern, with both sides struggling to create clear cut opportunities.

Then, latching on to a long ball forward, Mane produced a moment of class.

His first touch bringing the ball down on the edge of the German champions’ area, Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was tempted to come out and close him down. Seeing this, Mane’s second touch saw him turn away from him, before lofting a cool finish into the corner of the goal.

An away goal for Liverpool, this put Jurgen Klopp’s side firmly in the driving seat, meaning Bayern would have to score at least twice if they were to secure a passage to the quarter finals.

Bayern were able to claw one back via a Joel Matip own-goal. The defender, under pressure from Robert Lewandowski, turned a Serge Gnabry cross into his own net shortly before the interval.
