Ruben Semedo has been arrested after his partner filed charges against him claiming she had been assaulted, according to Greek outlet ekathimerini.

The Olympiakos defender was arrested on Monday night after his 28-year-old girlfriend alleged he had beaten her.

According to reports, the pair had an argument at Semedo’s house in the southern suburb of Glydafa, with the footballer allegedly hitting her, which injured her collarbone.

It adds that 27-year-old then locked her out of the house as she called the police at 10:30pm

Police arrived at the scene and found the woman waiting for them outside the house.

Greek City Times have reported that police arrived at the scene and found her outside waiting for them, with the woman filing a lawsuit against the Olympiacos defender.

The report also claims that Semedo was then taken to the Alimos Security Department, with his partner also transferred there – where Semedo apparently tried to persuade her to ‘reconstruct’ what she had claimed.

Despite his attempts, he was arrested and later released at 1am to appear in court at a later date.

The Portuguese international’s career has been marred by off-field controversy, with the former Sporting CP man standing trial in 2018 for an altercation in a bar in Valencia in November 2017, with the player allegedly brandishing a pistol while making threats.

He was arrested again in February 2018 for allegedly tying up and torturing a man in his home alongside two others, before going to the victim’s house to burgle it.

Semedo was charged with attempted murder and placed in preventive detention for the latter incident.

After paying bail of €30,000 in July 2018, he was released from prison. Facing a maximum sentence of 15-and-a-half years, he confessed two years later to kidnap, robbery, wounding and illegal firearm possession.

As a result, he was fined €46,000 and banned from entering Spain for the next eight years.

In August 2021, Semedo was arrested in Athens after a 17-year-old girl filed gang rape allegations following a night out in Oropos, Greece.

Police reportedly arrested another man who was accused of leading the girl back to Semedo’s house where the actions allegedly took place.

The defender was released from custody days later after paying a €10,000 bond.
