Robin van Persie hits out at gun-jumping media reports on his future

They were way off

There’s a massive difference between three weeks of recovery and a career-ending injury.

And Robin van Persie didn’t hesitate to point that out on Tuesday following reports that he’d been forced into retirement.

Van Persie suffered a knee injury during the Netherlands’ 3-0 defeat to France last week and several media outlets claimed that the former Manchester United and Arsenal forward had torn his cruciate knee ligaments, which would likely force him to hang up his boots.

The 34-year-old has been plying his trade for Fenerbahce since leaving Old Trafford in 2015 and he has taken to social media to rubbish the reports that his career was over.

“I would like to make this brief statement with the intention to rectify news spread concerning myself,” RVP wrote on Twitter.

“I regret that any statements about my injury have been made without my consent and approval.

“At this moment, I have a minor knee injury which has an average recovery time of three weeks.

“This is the conclusion of several knee specialists that come highly recommended, based on the scans, clinical tests and the fact that I could resume the match after the moment the injury happened.

“I’m looking forward to being back on the training pitch soon.”
