Good news, Villa fans. Tim Sherwood wants to come back and save your club

Make it happen...

Robert Redmond

It’s all over for Roberto Di Matteo.

The Italian has lost his job as Aston Villa manager following a poor run of form for the Championship club.

Villa haven’t won in their last nine games and dropped to 19th in the table after Saturday’s 2-0 loss away to Preston North End.

According to reports, Steve Bruce, Mick McCarthy and Bristol City manager Lee Johnson are in contention to take the role

However, some Villa fans only want one man to be the manager, and make a glorious return to Villa Park – Tim Sherwood.

Sherwood was Villa manager from February to October 2015. He steered the club away from the relegation zone, and brought them to the FA Cup final, but left after the club went 10 games without a win.

Since then, the club have appointed and sacked Remi Garde, been relegated from the Premier League and changed owners from American businessman Randy Lerner to Chinese businessman Tony Xia. In the summer, Villa appointed Di Matteo, but are now looking for their third permanent manager in a year.

Sherwood was also briefly in charge at Tottenham, and whatever you think about his qualities as a manager, it was never a dull moment on the sideline with Tim.

Sherwood was on talkSPORT on Monday morning, mulling over Di Matteo’s departure, and was asked if he was interested in returning to the club.

You better believe he is.

“It’s a year since I left the club and in that time they’ve had three managers. So something has to change,” Sherwood said.

“Would I consider it? Listen, I don’t know these new owners. I was there under a different regime.

“But when you go into a club when someone [ new owner, Chinese businessman Tony Xia] wants to really pick it up and take it forward, then it’s a great opportunity for any young manager.

“I certainly would be no different to anyone else.”

Even before he stated his interest in a return to Villa Park, some fans of the midlands’ club wanted to see the 47-year-old back in the dugout.

However, there are some Villa fans with longer memories.
