Robert Lewandowski will be regretting this tweet he sent to James Rodriguez

James won't let him live this one down

This didn’t age well at all

When the groups were drawn for the Russia World Cup back in December, Group H stood out as the least predictable. Not necessarily a group of death, but a group in which any team could feasibly come out on top.

This was due to Poland’s tactic of playing almost zero friendlies for two years in order to keep their FIFA ranking high enough to be a seeded team at the tournament and therefore be drawn into an ‘easier’ group. It hasn’t worked.

Poland have looked by far the least threatening team in the group, despite having Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski up front. And Lewandowski will be eating humble pie after firing blanks against Colombia last night, given what he tweeted to Colombia star and Bayern teammate James Rodriguez back when they were drawn in the same group.

Lewandowski sent James Rodriguez a message, asserting that he would outshine James at this World Cup. Sadly for the Poland captain, it didn’t go to plan.

You get the sense that James won’t let him live this one down any time soon.

Poland’s 3-0 loss to Colombia last night puts them out of the World Cup with one group game remaining, against Japan. Meanwhile Senegal play Colombia, with any of three teams still able to top the group.
