Robbie Savage baffled by Irish pundit’s post-match analysis, asks “who is he?”

Not a fan then

Darragh Murphy

As an Irish football fan, it’s very amusing for me to witness somebody’s first experience of the phenomenon that is Eamon Dunphy.

Robbie Savage was introduced to the Hoolahan-adoring enigma on Tuesday evening, when the Republic of Ireland fell to a 1-0 defeat to Serbia at the Aviva Stadium, and he asked his followers to identify the notorious curmudgeon.

“Just listening to this guy on TV talking nonsense about Ireland’s performance,” Savage tweeted. “Who is he?!!”

Well it turns out that plenty of Irish supporters follow Savage on Twitter and were only too happy to inform the Welshman, whose international side shares a World Cup Qualifying group with Ireland, of everything that comes with Dunphy.

Some replies were dripping with scorn.

While some were just brilliantly succinct.

You had some useful background information.

And a solid comparison, which was greatly appreciated by Savage.

There was affection.

And derision.

A lot of good points.

Some great points.

But at least Robbie Savage knows who Eamon Dunphy is now.
