Robbie Keane defeats LA Galaxy teammate in MLS Goal of the Year vote

He's in the last 8

They really squeeze every last drop of juice out of this.

To say that Robbie Keane’s goal against Portland Timbers last month was one of the MLS’ top 32 goals would not be a stretch.

Goal of the Year? That may prove to be a spectacular strike too far.

The Irish striker’s sweetly struck effort against Timbers, which was teed up by LA Galaxy teammate Juninho, made the 32-goal shortlist for the accolade.

Goal of the Year is done differently from your Match of the Day efforts. 32 scores are selected and placed into brackets ahead of a knock-out competition voted on by the public.

Keane’s goal has already made it through the first two rounds and into the last 8.

To reach the last eight, Keane received more votes than teammate Gyasi Zardes, who scored this against New England Revolution earlier in the season.
