Rob Holding Spurs Arsenal

What was he thinking?

Arsenal’s Rob Holding could well have had a huge say in who gets the final Champions League spot come the end of the season after he was sent off for an extremely stupid elbow on Tottenham Hotspur’s Heung-min Son in the North London Derby.

The Gunners were already 1-0 down at the time after a silly barge from Cedric Soares on Son allowed Harry Kane to step up and convert the penalty to give Antonio Conte’s side the lead.

Holding was shown two yellows in quick succession

Spurs had begun to gain momentum and threaten the Arsenal goal even more and Holding, who had shown signs of potentially losing his cool earlier in the game, finally bit and received two yellow cards in a short space of time.

His first was nothing more than a standard yellow however his second resulted in him landing a silly flailing elbow on Son, after the South Korean made a clever run.

There was no doubt about the decision for referee Paul Tierney as he brandished a second yellow, to which Holding didn’t protest and immediately left the pitch.

Spurs then shortly doubled their lead

As if things couldn’t get any worse for the Gunners, they found themselves 2-0 down just a few moments later as Kane doubled his tally and Spurs’ lead with a close-range header after meeting a flick-on from a corner to put the hosts in control.

A win for Tottenham at White Hart Lane will mean they move to within a point of their biggest rivals with just two games left to play of the season and also prevent Chelsea from assuring themselves of a place in the Champions League, until this weekend at least.
