‘I can’t sign it, I can’t sign a Liverpool shirt man’
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand refused to sign a Liverpool shirt ahead of the Reds’ Premier League opener against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
The former England international was part of BT Sport’s punditry team for Liverpool’s lunchtime trip clash against Fulham, and he spent time taking pictures and signing autographs with supporters before kick off.
However, when a fan in the home end – who was wearing a Liverpool home shirt – asked Ferdinand to sign his top, the Red Devils legend politely declined to pen his signature on the jersey.
Ferdinand filmed the exchange and posted the clip on Twitter. The fan can be heard asking him, “Can you sign this?” – to which he replied, “He’s just asked me to sign a Liverpool shirt, are you crazy?”.
He then added, “I can’t sign it, I can’t sign a Liverpool shirt man”.
The fan’s friend had an item signed but when Ferdinand was told he is a Liverpool fan, he joked, “Give me that back!”.

Liverpool found themselves 1-0 down against promoted side Fulham at half-time after Aleksandar Mitrovic headed home the opener in the 32nd minute.

The home side were then awarded a penalty after Virgil van Dijk tripped Fulham goalscorer Mitrovic inside the penalty area. The Serbian international dispatched his penalty with confidence, placing his spot-kick past Alisson.

Klopp’s men once again drew level, with Mohamed Salah slotting home from close range to make it 2-2. It was the sixth time that the Egyptian has scored for the Reds on the opening day of the season. The home side were able to hold on and secured a draw.
